PrimeFlow Project Expansion Nodes

Work with the goal, milestone, task, contact, and company nodes generated when you expand a Project node.

When you expand a Project node in PrimeFlow, PrimeTask places the project's related work onto the canvas as its own nodes. These generated nodes let you see how a project breaks down into goals, milestones, tasks, and CRM relationships - all connected back to the project.

This article covers those generated nodes. For the Project node itself, see PrimeFlow Project Nodes. For expanded project notes, see PrimeFlow Project Note Nodes.

Expansion nodes are shortcuts into real records

A generated goal, milestone, task, contact, or company node points to the real record. Opening it from the canvas opens the real entry in PrimeTask.

What you can do

Expand related work

around a project - goals, milestones, tasks, contacts, and companies.

Open any generated node

to reach the underlying record.

Pin generated nodes

so they stay visible when the project section is collapsed.

Further expand a milestone

to see its linked tasks.

Let PrimeFlow reuse nodes already on the canvas

instead of duplicating them.

Connect generated nodes to other parts of the canvas

to explain how work fits together.

Expansion actions on a Project node

A Project node offers these expansion actions:

  • Project Tasks - shows top-level tasks linked to the project.
  • Goals & OKRs - shows the project's goals.
  • Milestones - shows the project's milestones.
  • Project Contacts - shows people linked to the project. Requires Pro and CRM enabled on the project.
  • Project Companies - shows companies linked to the project. Requires Pro and CRM enabled on the project.
  • Project Notes - see PrimeFlow Project Note Nodes.

Collapse any expansion to hide its generated nodes again. Pinned nodes stay visible.

CRM expansions need Pro and a CRM-enabled project

Project Contacts and Project Companies are used for Pro licenses on projects that have CRM enabled with linked CRM records. See CRM and Projects and License Settings.

What each generated node shows

Project Goal nodes

A generated Project Goal node shows the goal's name, status, target date, and progress. Opening the node opens the goal so you can update key results, progress, or linked milestones.

For the project-side guide, see Project Goals.

Project Milestone nodes

A generated Project Milestone node shows the milestone's name, status, due date, and progress. Milestone progress reflects the completion of the linked tasks, so it updates when those tasks change.

For the project-side guide, see Project Milestones.

Project task nodes

Tasks expanded from a project use the standard Task node. They show the same task details as any other task node on the canvas. See PrimeFlow Task Nodes and PrimeFlow Task Expansion Nodes for full task behavior.

Project contact and company nodes

Contacts and companies expanded from a project use the standard CRM nodes. See PrimeFlow CRM Nodes and PrimeFlow CRM Expansion Nodes for full CRM node behavior.

Further expansion

  • Milestones can expand further to show their linked tasks when they have any. Use the task expansion action on a generated Milestone node to place those tasks on the canvas and connect them to the milestone.
  • Goals do not expand further in PrimeFlow. Open the goal from its node to manage key results and linked items.

Goals linked to milestones are connected automatically

When both Goals & OKRs and Milestones are expanded on the same Project node, PrimeFlow automatically draws a connection from each generated Goal node to every Milestone node it is linked to. This mirrors the goal-to-milestone links set on the project so the canvas shows how outcomes map to delivery checkpoints without any manual drawing.

If you link or unlink a milestone to a goal in the project, the canvas connection is updated on the next refresh.

Expand goals and milestones together

Expanding both at the same time gives you the clearest picture of how goals drive milestones.

PrimeFlow reuses nodes already on the canvas

When an expansion would place a node that is already on the canvas - for example, a task you expanded earlier from a milestone - PrimeFlow reuses that existing node and connects the project to it with a link connection instead of creating a second copy.

This keeps the canvas clean when the same task, contact, or company belongs to more than one part of the project map.

Expand the whole map without clutter

Expand milestones, then tasks, then contacts or companies. Shared items appear once and get connected to every relevant parent.

Pin behavior

Every generated expansion node can be pinned:

  • Pin a generated node to keep it on the canvas when its project section is collapsed.
  • Unpinned nodes are removed when the section is collapsed and rebuilt the next time you expand.
  • Positions are remembered so unpinned nodes return to where you placed them when you re-expand.

Pin behavior is the same for generated goal, milestone, task, contact, and company nodes.

Connections between the project and its expansions

PrimeFlow connects generated nodes to the Project node so you can read the map from the project outward. Connection labels describe the relationship - project task, goal, milestone, project contact, project company, or a link to a node that was already present.

For full connection behavior, see PrimeFlow Connections and Edges.

Things worth knowing

Expansion follows the active Space

Project goals, milestones, tasks, contacts, and companies come from the active Space's project. Switching Spaces changes the project set, the canvases, and what is available to expand.

Remove from Canvas does not delete the record

Removing a generated expansion node from the canvas removes the visual node and its canvas connections. The goal, milestone, task, contact, or company remains in the project.

Appearance overrides are canvas-only

Changing the appearance of a generated node in PrimeFlow affects the canvas only. It does not change the underlying record. For theme behavior, see PrimeFlow Color Themes.

Expansion is additive, not a replacement for the project page

Expansion is meant to tell the story of the project on a canvas. Use the project page when you need the complete project record, full filtering, metrics, team, or fields.

Common questions

"Why do I not see duplicates when I expand the same task from two places?"

PrimeFlow reuses a node that is already on the canvas and connects it to the new parent with a link connection.

"If I collapse a milestone, do I lose its tasks?"

No. Unpinned task nodes are removed from the canvas and rebuilt the next time you expand. Pinned task nodes stay visible.

"Can goals expand to show their key results on the canvas?"

Goal nodes do not expand further in PrimeFlow. Open the goal to work with key results and linked items.

"Why do Project Contacts and Project Companies not appear?"

Project Contacts and Project Companies are used for Pro licenses on projects that have CRM enabled and linked CRM records. See CRM and Projects and License Settings.

"Does removing a generated node delete the goal, milestone, task, contact, or company?"

No. Removing from the canvas affects the canvas only. The underlying record stays in the project.
