Dashboard Header

The always-visible header on the Dashboard - your avatar, welcome message, today's date, an animated progress ring, the notifications bell, and quick-access buttons for Setup Wizard, Layout Editor, Settings, and Create Task.

The Dashboard Header is the top section of the Dashboard that doesn't change with your widget customisation. It's always there, providing personal context (avatar, welcome, date), real-time progress (animated ring showing tasks completed today), and the most-used app actions (notifications, Setup Wizard, Layout Editor, Settings, Create Task).

This is separate from the App Header at the top of every page (which contains the active timer, search, and command palette). For that, see Understanding the Interface.

Dashboard Header is not a widget

Customising the Dashboard layout does not hide or move the header.

Where the header sits

The Dashboard Header is the topmost section of the Dashboard page. It stays in place regardless of which widgets you've shown or hidden - the customisable widget grid sits below it. The Dashboard Header is part of the Dashboard only - it doesn't appear on the Tasks page, Projects page, or anywhere else.

Use the header for quick starts

Create a task, open settings, revisit setup, or adjust layout without leaving the Dashboard.

What's in the header

The header has two rows.

Top row - identity and actions

Avatar and welcome

Your profile avatar appears at the left, with a personalised welcome message (e.g., "Welcome back, Sarah!") and today's date below it. The avatar comes from your profile settings - see Profile Settings.

The date is formatted in your preferred date format and includes the day of the week (e.g., "Monday, April 13, 2026").

Action buttons

Four to five buttons sit in the top-right of the header:

ButtonWhat it does
Notifications bellOpens the same notifications dropdown as the sidebar's bell, with an unread-count badge that respects your Space filter
Setup WizardRe-launches the onboarding wizard, letting you redo any step (preferences, profile, theme, dashboard preset, etc.)
Layout EditorOpens the Dashboard Settings modal where you show, hide, and reorder widgets
SettingsNavigates to the Settings page
Create TaskOpens the task creation modal - full button on wider screens; in compact view, the button moves to the icon row at top right and shows as a + icon

Bottom row - progress widget

Below the welcome row, a compact card shows your progress today:

  • Welcome line - "You've completed N of M tasks"
  • Animated progress ring - an SVG ring on the right that fills as you complete tasks
  • Percentage in the centre of the ring

The ring animates smoothly when the page loads and updates as tasks are completed. The percentage is calculated as completed / total × 100 across your entire Space.

The notifications bell

Clicking the bell opens the Notifications dropdown - the same component used by the sidebar bell. Both surfaces share state, so unread counts and read/unread updates stay in sync.

The unread count badge respects your Space filter:

  • All Spaces - counts unread notifications across every Space
  • Specific Space - counts only unread notifications in the selected Space

For notification preferences (which events trigger notifications, sounds, position), see Notification Settings.

The Setup Wizard button

Clicking the Setup Wizard button re-launches the onboarding wizard without resetting any of your data. Use it when you want to:

  • Re-apply a different dashboard preset (Minimal / Balanced / Productivity / Full)
  • Update preferences you skipped or changed your mind about
  • Step through new features added in updates

The wizard remembers your previous selections, so you can change just the steps you care about. See Setup Wizard.

Setup changes preferences, not data

Re-running setup can change preferences and recommendations, but it does not remove your tasks or projects.

The Layout Editor button

Clicking the Layout Editor button opens the Dashboard Settings modal, where you can:

  • Show or hide any widget
  • Drag widgets to reorder them within a column
  • Move widgets between the left and right columns
  • See a visual schematic of your current layout
  • Pick from preset layouts
  • Reset to the default

For the full layout system, see Dashboard Layout.

Layout changes are Dashboard-only

The Layout Editor changes widgets, not the tasks, projects, notes, or reminders those widgets show.

The Settings button

Clicking the Settings button navigates to the Settings page (same as clicking Settings in the sidebar). For everything you can configure, see the Settings Overview.

The Create Task button

The Create Task button opens the task creation modal - pre-set to the active Space, no project pre-selected. Useful for capturing a quick personal task without leaving the dashboard.

In compact view (narrow window widths), the full button moves to the icon row at the top right and renders as a + icon instead of the full button. Clicking the icon opens the same task creation modal.

For all the ways to create tasks, see Creating Tasks.

The progress ring

The animated progress ring at the bottom of the header is computed live:

percentage = completed tasks / total tasks × 100

The ring fills clockwise as the percentage rises. The numeric percentage shows in the centre. Both update in real time as tasks are completed.

The ring counts tasks across your entire current Space - including project tasks, CRM tasks, personal tasks, and recurring task instances. Switch Spaces and the ring recalculates.

When you have zero tasks, the ring shows 0% and the welcome line reads "You've completed 0 of 0 tasks".

Things worth knowing

The header is always shown

Unlike widgets in the grid below, the header can't be hidden or reordered. It's a fixed part of the Dashboard.

The header isn't on other pages

Tasks, Projects, CRM, Calendar, and other pages have their own headers. The Dashboard Header is unique to the Dashboard.

Compact mode shifts the Create Task button

In narrow windows, the Create Task button collapses from a full-width button to a + icon in the top-right action row, sitting alongside the Notifications, Wizard, Layout, and Settings icons. The behaviour is identical - just the visual changes.

The Notifications bell mirrors the Sidebar's bell

Both bells share the same notification store and dropdown component. Reading a notification in one updates the count in both.

The progress ring measures your whole Space, not the day

Despite the "Your progress today" label, the ring counts all tasks in your Space that are completed - not just today's tasks. The label refers to "what your progress is, today" rather than "tasks completed today specifically".

The animated entrance is once per page load

The avatar, welcome text, and progress ring animate in once when the Dashboard page renders. They don't re-animate when you navigate back to the Dashboard within the same session.

Common questions

"Why is the progress ring at 0% even though I've completed tasks?"

Check that you're in the right Space. The ring counts tasks in the active Space only - switch Spaces and the count changes. If you completed tasks in a different Space, switch to that Space to see them counted.

"How do I change my avatar?"

Open Settings → Profile and update your avatar there. The Dashboard Header reflects your profile avatar immediately. See Profile Settings.

"Can I hide the Dashboard Header?"

No - the header is a fixed part of the Dashboard. You can hide every widget below it (in which case you'll see the header plus an empty-state message), but the header itself is always visible.

"Where do the date and welcome text come from?"

The date uses your preferred date format from Date & Time settings. The welcome uses your full name from Profile settings, falling back to the prefix of your email if no name is set.

"How do I re-run onboarding without losing my data?"

Click the Setup Wizard button (the sparkle icon) in the header. The wizard runs again with your current settings pre-loaded - change what you want, skip the rest. Your tasks, projects, notes, and other data are not affected. See Setup Wizard.

"Why doesn't my Notifications bell match the count in the Sidebar?"

Both bells share state - they should always match. If they don't, try switching Spaces and back, or restart the app to refresh notification cache.

"Can I customise which buttons appear in the header?"

Not currently - the header's buttons are fixed. The customisable area is the widget grid below the header. See Dashboard Layout.
