Adding Nodes in PrimeFlow
Add tasks, projects, notes, media, files, CRM records, portals, and mind map topics to a PrimeFlow canvas.
Nodes are the building blocks of a PrimeFlow canvas. A node can represent work, a note, a file, a person, a company, a media reference, a portal to another canvas, or a mind map topic.
You can add nodes from the Node Library, from the canvas right-click menu, with keyboard shortcuts, or by pasting supported content into the canvas.
Nodes are canvas objects
Adding a node gives that item a place on the current canvas. For linked records such as tasks, projects, contacts, and companies, the original record still lives in its main PrimeTask area.
What you can do
Drag node types from the Node Library
onto the canvas
Search the Node Library
to find a node type quickly
Right-click the canvas
to add common node types at a chosen place
Use Option or Alt shortcuts
to add nodes from the keyboard
Paste images, YouTube links, X/Twitter post links, links, or plain text
into the canvas
Choose existing tasks, projects, contacts, and companies
when adding linked record nodes
Create new tasks, projects, contacts, and companies
while adding their nodes
Configure files, folders, PDFs, portals, and external app nodes
during node creation
Pick the add method that matches the job
Drag from the Node Library when browsing available node types. Use shortcuts when you already know what you want. Paste when the content is already on your clipboard.
How to open the Node Library
- Main navigation: Open PrimeFlow.
- PrimeFlow header: Use Show Library to open the Node Library.
- Keyboard: Press
Lwhile working in PrimeFlow to show or hide the Node Library. - Command palette: Press ⌘+K on macOS or Ctrl+K on Windows, search for PrimeFlow, then open the Node Library from the PrimeFlow header.
See PrimeFlow Header and Controls for the full header guide.
Add a node from the Node Library

Step 3
Search for a node type, or browse the available node groups.
Step 4
Drag the node type onto the canvas.

Some nodes are created immediately. Other nodes ask you to choose or configure something first.
| Node type | What happens when you add it |
|---|---|
| Mind map topics | Adds an editable topic to the canvas |
| Sticky Note, Text Label, Emoji Sticker, Quick Notes, Documentation | Adds a note-style node to the canvas |
| Task | Opens task selection so you can choose or create a task |

Some node types require Pro
File, Folder, PDF, Mermaid, Portal, Cross-Space Portal, External App, and advanced CRM nodes are part of the Pro tier. See PrimeFlow Standard and Pro.
Add a node with right-click
Right-click an empty part of the canvas to open quick actions for adding common node types at that place.
The right-click menu can add work nodes, CRM nodes, notes, stickers, images, links, file nodes, portals, groups, and summaries depending on your license and the current canvas state.
See PrimeFlow Right-Click Menus for the full right-click guide.

Works on every keyboard layout
PrimeFlow shortcuts are based on the physical key position, not the character it produces. So Option/Alt + 1 works the same on QWERTY, AZERTY, German QWERTZ, Dvorak, and other layouts - even when those keys produce different characters when typed normally.
Shortcuts do not run while you are typing
Finish editing text, notes, names, or documentation content before using node shortcuts.
Mind map topics: Tab and Return
Inside a mind map, you can grow the structure straight from a selected topic without picking a node type. Select a mind map topic, then press Tab to add a child topic underneath it, or Return (Enter on Windows) to add a sibling topic at the same level. The new topic opens ready for you to type. For the full mind map guide, see Mind Map Nodes.
Add nodes by pasting
PrimeFlow can create nodes from supported clipboard content when you paste into the canvas.
| Pasted content | Node created |
|---|---|
| Image | File-style image node |
| YouTube link | YouTube node |
| X/Twitter post link | X Post node |
| Other supported link | Link node |
| Plain text | Text Label node |
Paste creates the node near the current working area of the canvas.
Paste is for canvas creation, not text editing
When you are typing inside a field or editor, paste goes into that field instead of creating a new canvas node.
Things worth knowing
Some nodes connect to existing PrimeTask records
Task, project, contact, and company nodes can point to records that already exist. When you choose an existing record, the node represents that record on the canvas.
Some nodes create records during setup
Task, project, contact, and company setup can also create a new record and place it on the canvas.
Some nodes require setup before they appear
Files, folders, PDFs, links, YouTube videos, X/Twitter posts, portals, cross-Space portals, external app nodes, and activity nodes ask for setup information first.
Node availability follows your license
PrimeFlow includes many node types on every PrimeTask license. Pro adds advanced nodes such as File, Folder, PDF, Mermaid, Portal, Cross-Space Portal, External App, and advanced CRM nodes.
Synced Spaces can affect device-specific nodes
Some device-specific node types, such as Folder and External App, may not be available in Spaces that sync across devices. Use file, link, portal, or record-based nodes when you need the canvas to travel cleanly between devices.
Common questions
"Why did adding a task open a selector instead of creating a blank node?"
Task nodes connect to real PrimeTask tasks. Choose an existing task or create a new one from the selector.
"Can I paste a YouTube link directly into the canvas?"
Yes. Paste a YouTube link into the canvas and PrimeFlow creates a YouTube node.
"Can I paste regular text?"
Yes. Plain text becomes a Text Label node.
"Why does a Pro node ask for setup?"
Some Pro nodes need a destination, file, diagram, or app choice before PrimeFlow can place the node on the canvas.
"Do node shortcuts work everywhere in PrimeTask?"
No. These shortcuts are for PrimeFlow while the canvas is active.
